A Thursday Night Out With Friends From School At A Local Bar Results In Hazardous And Excessive Drinking And Symptoms Of Alcohol Poisoning
When Lois was in high school, she had secured a reputation as an individual who studied a lot and who rarely, if ever, partied with her peers. She seemed almost obsessed about doing well academically so that she would be able to find a career that she not only benefited from but one that also gave her some security from a financial point of view.
After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into an illustrious program in linguistics. Her reasoning for this decision was that this area of study would be a good springboard for law school and would not be comparable to the preponderance of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.
Lois was the type of individual who worked meticulously to accomplish her goal and then would take a break when she could. As is the case, nevertheless, virtually all of the things she did between school sessions or during summer breaks were not associated with drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were completed and being jubilant with the fact that she had done extremely well on her finals, because of this, she wanted to take a respite from school and have some fun.
So Lois and several of her friends went to a local saloon where they had a few shots. As the evening moved forward, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a fabulous time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.
After drinking about forty minutes when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then pass out, in spite of this, her classmates without delay knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency services number, and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was very aware that she came close to losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, consequently, was pleased to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her Mother and Father knew how intensely she worked in graduate school and how little she permitted herself to have any fun. Nonetheless, they also realized that Lois needed to steer clear of careless and irresponsible drinking.
As a result, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking occasion develops, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was of the same opinion and swore to her Mother and Father and to her friends that she would never again drink in an excessive and hazardous manner. In her own words, "I never pondered the fact that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local college newspaper. I now understand that careless drinking is not my style. I declare that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also had a lot of common sense. In other words, she rapidly knew that she had made an error and made up her mind that she would never make the same error in judgment again. If truth be told, she now knew that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of careless drinking can result in a fatality.
